1. What we collect

BiteCast is built local-first. By default the app stores all data on your device only:

2. When you sign in

If you choose to sign in with email, your catches and waypoints sync to a cloud database (Supabase) so they're available on any device you sign into. We store your email address (for sign-in) and the data you create (catches, waypoints, optional photos).

We never share your individual locations with other users or third parties. Public catch heatmaps (when enabled) show only aggregated, coordinate-fuzzed (~1km) statistics, not individual records.

3. What we do not collect

4. Third-party services

Map data is fetched from public agencies (JAXA, IMOS, AusSeabed, NOAA, OpenStreetMap, GBRMPA, DCCEEW). Each request reveals your IP address to the relevant data provider, as is normal for any web map. See the in-app "Data sources & credits" panel for the full list.

5. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act and GDPR (where applicable), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold. Contact us using the details below.

6. Data retention

Local data persists on your device until you clear it via the app or your browser. Cloud data persists until you delete your account or individual records.

7. Contact

Questions or requests: legal@bitecast.com.au

8. Changes

We'll update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be flagged in-app the next time you open it.
